Il'laaga [ee-LAH-guh], the southern continent (The first letter is an i, not an l), has a complex history. From the beginning of recorded history, the humans started off in Western Il'laaga, the gnomes in East Il'laaga, the Dwarves somewhere aboveground in the Jagged Mountains, the Centaur where Dusthaven now is, and the Pegasus roaming freely. As 500 years past and the races began to develop- and consequently, discover each other, the first impulse was peace. Things were traded between the races, and it was all relatively peaceful.
The discovery of magic on Il'laaga happened after it did on Kael'Timorn. The Centaur and Pegasus had always had a close affinity with Earth and Wind, and their lore was deeply wise. But the humans coveted this power, and one human stole a lorebook from the Centaur, learning Earth magic. The Centaur chased him down and killed the man, recovering the book, but not before the man had taught Earth magic to his two sons, one who founded the Moloch Monks, the second who began wondering around.
The second used his magic to carve the Demon's Mouth Pass out of the Jagged Mountains. The huge blast of the force needed to control and move so much stone knocked him unconsious. The beam was cylindrical, hence why the Demon's Mouth is in a tunnel shape today, why much of the rock hangs over the pass. The man woke up later, vowing never to do something like that again, and disappeared into East Il'laaga.
The dwarves knew about Kael'Timorn because of Thor; they constantly traded back and forth with them. The dwarves, who still lived aboveground at the time, shared knowledge with the humans often, creating Deephaven. The Dwarves also told the humans of the Gnomes and Pegasi to the east, and how fertile the land was. Many humans migrated through the Demon's Mouth pass and populated East Il'laaga. Peace reigned.
But peace was not to last. While most races have affinity with one kind of magic, Humans greed overcame them. They coveted the other forms of magic. They already knew Earth magic from the Centaur and Fire magic from the Dwarves. It is rumored that a water sprite gave Water/ice magic to a man at Boghaven. Some crosseed into Kael'Timorn and came back with Wind Magic- a gift from the elves. The humans, who populated very quickly and now had all forms of magic, began to dominate the lands of Il'laaga. The other races, to say the least, were not happy about this. Peace tried to take the reigns once more, but war was destined to break out; the first Great War of Il'laaga began. The Dwarves fought for the Jagged Mountains and the area around them; the Gnomes wanted to keep their villages and settlements which were everywhere in East Il'laaga; the Centaur tribes grew tired of fighting each other and appointed a leader, the first Great Chieftain, and went off to war with the rest; the Pegasi tried to stay out of it but also tried to keep their grazing lands free; the Humans wanted everything.
The war was fought fiercely, the Humans and Centaur especially fierce. The Dwarves were the first to "concede", all of them disappearing underground in the Jagged Mountains. The gnomes, despite their technology, were harried into forests and caves. As battle after battle was lost by the Pegasi, they conceded defeat and turned over much of their land; but they held a grudge against humans and Centaur that last to this day. The Centaur and Humans, finding themselves at stalemate, called it a truce; the Centaur would keep their lands to roam around in, and the humans would have uninhibited development.
At the beginning of the war, there was a famous "lucky" thief named Preces and his companions Tahar, a Centaur, Tethra, a wind sprite from Fey Forest, and Lilt, the wind dragon that is now the Wind Dragon Master. Together they abducted Nadia, the queen of the human lands, disorganizing the humans and giving the other sides a chance to regroup. They went into East Il'laaga, where Nadia fell in love with Preces. They had many adventures together, those powerful four. Nadia and Preces returned once the war was over, where Nadia would marry Preces and they would found the League of Stars. Preces' famous pearl-handled dagger, said to have magical powers, was never found.
During this time, Nature Magic was on the rise by the Moloch Monks, Necromancy was somehow introdcued to Il'laaga from Kael'Timorn, and the League of Stars was founded by Nadia and Preces to keep peace, organize trade, and make sure that the Great war was never repeated. They appointed a man named Burgand to be the first Supreme General. After Burgand came Thomas, then Lloyd (The Supreme General before Conan). Nadia and Prees disappeared together somewhere.
The Shruki appeared from the East and the Renegades grew powerful in the Jagged Mountains, proving to be worthy opposition for the league. The Shruki proclaimed freedom to the people, who, though they had only been ruled by the League for a little over 150 years, were tired of the military rule. They were afraid that it was becoming a dictatorship, that martial law might come any day, and they swarmed to the Shruki. The League tried to stop it, but the Shruki performed Healing services and "Religious" gatherings and won the people's hearts even more. They even protected the villages from the Renegades whenever they were staying in a village, something even the League failed to do. The League was losing power fast, and they had to do something abou tit, and martial law was one option on the horizon...
It was now that a strange boat with even stranger people and complex machines appeared off the coast of Deathhaven...
