In an arena battle fighting another player, you can control their player to an extent. The battle is in RP format. The challenger goes first, the defender picks the stage. If both are challengers, than it will be number from 1-10 to decide who goes first, etc.
Rules:
The Player vs. Player battles are based entirely on writing/RPing quality, not the strength of the character.
All battle "phases" must end in a essential draw (I.e. everyone dodges or parries everything, or, if you give your opponent a slight wound like, say, in the shoulder, than you must take a slight wound as well.)
The number of phases is usually 2-4 each. Sometimes an Admin might make a call if a post leans too heavily in one player's direction.
After so many phases, a vote will be passed on the match from the three admins, and the winner will have the option of posting a finishing RP (defeating the other character)
Make sure all battle phase posts are detailed and usually pretty long.
Admins reserve the right to "change the stage" if they want on long battles (3-4 phases)

*Most* battles should follow this format:
Phase 1: No one is really injured, demonstrating powers mostly.
Phase 2: Small injuries on both sides
Phase 3: If final phase, demonstrate "Ultimate'/Desperation Attack", if not, both are heavily injured.
Phase 4: (If there is one) Final attacks, preferably the "Ultimate/Desperation Attack" variety.
